Lovely language but pacing was a problem. An emotional, gothic, sapphic romp for sure.

Finally gave up on this book. Maybe I’ll return to it sometime in the future. The Halloween party scene made me so angry that I put it down and haven’t picked it back up since ¯\_(>_<)_/¯

Okay where do I even begin. You know how sometimes you read a book and you are just absolutely obsessing over it, even though you’re only half way in. Well that’s what happened to me. I can admit that my first pair of Mary Jane’s were purchased in the first half of this book.
I know that this book isn’t for everyone, but it sure as hell is for me. This was simply written for me personally. I mean, it’s a dark academia sapphic story that revolved around poetry, complex relationships but mostly love. It was even spicy! Just the right amount.
The ending was a little slower, but I didn’t really mind. I adore this book with my whole heart. Definitely a new favorite!

“I had the awful, yawning feeling inside myself that for her, I would always stay.”

A dark academic setting with a poetry professor full of secrets. Full of obsession, jealousy and romance.

Wish Laura and Carmilla had more of a drawn out relationship(magdalena’s party) but it was clear they were both fixated on each other from the start.

The dynamic they had with De Lafontaine was at times so scary and I wanted them both out especially Carmilla.

The ending was a little lackluster and predictable but i’m still okay with it.

Thank you netgalley and redhook books for sending me an e-arc.

Unfortunately... this was a bit of a let down for me (even though overall, I still enjoyed my reading experience).

I absolutely DEVOURED S.T. Gibson's "A Dowry of Blood", so I knew I had to pick up "An Education in Malice" to go along with it as they're based in the same universe and have a reoccurring character. However, this book just didn't give me the same emotions as I had going into ADoB, which may just be due to how this was set in a more present time period and I really enjoyed how old, yet modern the first book felt.

The characters in this story, Lisa and Carmilla, are both fine. And that's all they are is fine. I didn't find myself too concerned with either of their well-beings for the most part because I didn't bond much with either of them over the course of the novel. The actual "plotline" was kind of annoying and wasn't close enough to the forefront of the novel for me to enjoy it.

There are spicy, sexy scenes involved if you want to get your fix in a vampire novel, but they also did nothing for me (maybe because they were just so out of the norm that I was confused as to what was going on).

Without giving too much away, I'll just say that this was still a good book because Gibson has a great way with words, but overall it still fell flat for me compared to ADoB.

Thank you to NetGalley for an ARC of this book in exchange for an honest review!

I did find this book to be enjoyable though i do not think it compares to its predecessor. I thought that Carmillas' and Lauras' relationship could have been slower and (imo) i felt there was a bit too many erotic scenes (but its sapphic so i kinda give it a pass) idk like something hit me wrong but like i also liked it so idk lmao but hey MAGDELANA <3. I think i would reread parts or certain chapters of this book but i dont think i could do it cover to cover yanno. Though overall i enjoyed it!!!  i love girls and arguing about poetry HURRAH

In comparison to a dowry of blood it was not good. But it was beautifully written but I just didn’t care for it
