I wanted to love this more than I did (because I love The Deal so much and the rest of that series is pretty high on my TBR). I listened to Good Girl Complex on audio and found it to be a quick, enjoyable listen. However, there was really nothing here that wow'd me.
I honestly did not really find Mackenzie to be a very likable heroine. I didn't feel like she was relatable - it felt like her only personality traits were being rich and hard working (relatively, for the kind of rich that she was). I never really felt any sort of connection to her.
And then Cooper - he was alright (morality aside but I went into this book with a good idea of the spoilers) but not really a lovable character.
The other thing I wasn't thrilled with was that the reveal and reconciliation happened way too close to the end of the book (like the characters are reconciling at the 97% mark). I would have liked the book more if the reveal had happened sooner so more of the plot could have covered them working through their problems and then finding their HEA. Instead I would categorize this ending as an HFN because it happened too late in the book to indicate this couple really is destined for a HEA.
Will I read more Elle Kennedy books after this? Absolutely - I'm still eyeing all of the Off-Campus and Briar U books. But will I continue with Avalon Bay? Maybe not.

Había visto buenas críticas y quería leer algo sencillo, pero no me ha gustado. No me gustan las bases sobre las que construyen su relación y no me los creo, siento que me están intentando vender unos sentimientos que no veo reflejados en el libro.

Not Elle Kennedy's best work for the sole reason that neither of these characters feel real. the feel like tropes. which is dumb because Elle KNOWS how to write characters and good ones at that! Lest we forget Grace Ivers or Summer Di Lorentez. But Okay, who doesn't love a bad boy fuck-fest that is essentially a watered down and healthier After.
I feel like 3 stars is generous. I hate when relationships are started with a lie… but the grovelling was decent enough.

It wasn’t my favorite Elle Kennedy book, but it also wasn’t my least favorite. The writing is good and the story is just ok, but as pointed out a few times in the book the two characters argue over everything. The writing of Cooper with his “when we’re arguing, sometimes I want to throttle her.” Big yikes even if it’s supposed to be a “joke.” (I don’t think it is.)
The two when they’re together are so volatile. It’s an easy read with interesting characters as is, but all I felt that was between Mac & Cooper is the stuff that burns hot and bright but quick, not long and steady like the end paints it out to be.
In short, it’s got passion & decent smut, but the two together are big red flags.

I didn’t make it too far into this book before deciding it was not for me. New adult/college-aged characters are hard for me to read anymore, but I make exceptions for authors whose work I've loved in the past. Unfortunately, this one just wasn't it for me. The whole frat boy vs townie and plot to make a fool out of an innocent woman just isn’t my jam.

I love the library because the library allows me to read books like this. I knew what I was getting into and it was exactly what I expected. Was this a good book? No. Was this well written? Not at all. Typically I would say I had fun, but honestly this just fell flat even in the fun category. It was brain rot that I got to enjoy for a Sunday and now I’ll bring it back to the library where I will forget about this book immediately <3
