4.75⭐️ on Fable. No. Notes. Absolutely brilliant and extremely captivating even though, at its heart, it was just a narrative about the trials and tribulations of an everyday family.

I loved the title and the references throughout to bees, the bee sting being an ambiguous time stamp for “where did things go wrong.” No spoilers, but the bee sting represents so much more and is the overarching theme of this book and, quite honestly, so much of today’s society.

Maybe one note.. I will say, it is a harddd read due to the writing style. Second person, stream of consciousness writing with, at times, zero punctuation. But I’m so glad I pushed through it.

The ending of this book…wow. I tried to use my rusty English-major analysis skills and still couldn’t decide what it meant! But it was incredibly thought-provoking. I liked that one of the main themes of the book focused on the importance of becoming/accepting your true self (with some characters more successful at that than others). I also enjoyed how each section of the book was told from the point of view of each of the four main characters in this family saga. At 600+ pages long, there were some parts of the book that dragged a little and could have been edited more, but the last 100 or so pages absolutely flew by as the tension ratcheted up and I couldn’t wait to find out what would happen…and then that ending! 4 stars
