while i enjoyed the folk of the air series, i've never been a fan of jude and cardan's relationship. quite frankly, i find it to be the worst type of enemies to lovers because cardan seems outright abusive until the last book. that being said, i really enjoyed this collection as it brings more understanding to cardan's character and shows some great character growth. the art work is absolutely gorgeous and i easily read this in a night.

i mean.... i'm gonna read it but why

This book was different from the trilogy. It felt calmer but still had drama. I really enjoyed getting a slight picture of Cardan's side. I'm falling deeper in-love with Cardan though. Probably not good. I loved the art style as well!

Didn't realize how much I needed more of Prince Cardan's tragic baggage until I got it. So broody and jaded 🙃🙃, and the illustrations are stunning

This is a collection of Novella's, all from Cardan's POV. And you know I love a good MMC POV. Especially a villain arch with a tragic backstory. Which is exactly what this book is.

I adore these novellas. I wish she would make a second Volume. It started with him as a child, and ended about midway through The Cruel Prince. I would love his POV for Wicked King, and before Queen of Nothing. Please, @blackholly ?

To top it off, this book has gorgeous illustrations. I love them. I mean, just look at them!! I am so happy I got the hardcover with glossy pages.

And you know I had to include the map for #bookmapmonday

Fun and highly anticipated ofc, but it really seemed like more of a series of snapshots than actual stories. The most intriguing thread was the troll woman who met Cardan at several points in his life. LIKE MOST EVERYONE ELSE WHO READ THIS, I also wanted more writing about Jude from Cardan's perspective. I also wish the art had been more developed--I would've loved to see official portraits of Jude/Taryn/Vivi and Heather/Madoc/Balekin, etc etc. The drawings in this, while cool, are more like seeing something out of the corner of your eye. I think this could've worked better as like a survival guide to Elfhame, more in line with Arthur Spiderwick's Field Guide To The Fantastical World Around You. While I did enjoy spending time in Cardan's head, I wish there had been more to this text. Maybe I'll go back to the Folk of The Air and then revisit this.
