James is such a secret softy. This one just didn't pull as much at my heart strings. Can't wait for William's novella.

In this historical romance set in the late Victorian era, Eleanor Watkins seeks revenge for his sister's death by killing the man who ruined her and drove her to commit suicide. While pursuing the brute, she meets James Swindler, a man seeking to atone for his childhood thievery, and their attraction is immediate. The rest of the story is full of plot twists that kept me off balance until the end. The ending was a bit too neat for me, but I really enjoyed the vividly drawn characters and the strong bonds of loyalty keeping them all together. Probably not the best writing, but worth it for the surprises and characters.

This could have been such an interesting story especially with the suspense element. Since Eleanor undertook this big task of avenging her sister, I thought she would be more headstrong. James being a distinguished police officer and an expert on catching criminals. I thought there would be more tension between them, more angst, a conflict between choosing between his heart and the law. Unfortunately that was not the case. They both fell so easily and it was lacklustre.

This was my least favorite of this series. The 1st half of the book was slow and really hard to be interested in. And the 2nd half just wasn’t as satisfying as the other books in this series.

This book was slow to start, directionless and I didn't care much for the romance before the twist. After the the twist, the story increased in pace, more indepth and a great "villan".

I give this a weak 4 stars. The romance was more insta-love but I give credit for a complex story with twists and surprises.

Eleanor needs to revenge her sisters death, she killed herself after Lord Rockburry took advantage of her. Scotland Yard has assigned James to figure out what the woman following said Lord plans to do to him.
In their game of cat and mouse they start to fall for each other and when she finally gets up the nerve to tell him Rockburry is mysteriously murdered and things get complicated really fast.
This was a lot of fun to read but I can't talk about my favorite part because it's a huge spoiler, but Eleanor and James have great chemistry and the twists were entertaining.

We're starting to see glimpses of the most outlandish plotlines that I've come to expect from Ms Heath, James Swindler, one of the last of the original scoundrels is tasks to follow a young Eleanor Watkins who has come to London to avenge the death of her twin sister. I'm almost ashamed to admit that Heath totally got me with her plot twist this time around, who would have thought!

We see the scoundrels coming together as you'd expect to mop up all of the pieces at the end, bit guilty to admit this was probably my favourite of the series. Heath's plot twists are growing on me!
