Good plot twists which kept me guessing to the killers identity.

easy and enjoyable, I feel like packed a lot of extra context in that wasn't needed sometimes

I thought this was a good read but it didn’t knock my socks off.  I think I’d built some expectations of there being some dark humour, so that’s on me, but I just didn’t entirely connect with it or the characters.

I loved the main plot - a group of old high school friends get away for a weekend of good food, good wine & no responsibilities.  It’s a great time but then wife swapping is oh so casually mentioned.  However, I found that the build up to this part of the story was slow.  I normally love a story with dual timelines, but this one just didn’t work for me.  I also thought there was too much going on with the subplots - it felt like the story was a dark & gritty thriller mixed with a cozy mystery, and it never succeeded completely with either.

I did enjoy the second half more than the first - in true locked room & isolated location mystery styles, I suspected everyone!  There were plenty of surprises, including one that had me yelling at the book.

A little slow at the start but grew intriguing with some nice twists. Didn't like or relate to any of the characters and didn't really enjoy the present time POV. Also didn't really understand the motive for the killer's last move at the end.

A group of university friends heads to a remote house for a weekend away to destress. As the three couples unwind on the first night the topic of partner swapping comes up, and although not everyone is keen eventually an agreement is made. The lights will be turned out, each of the women will go into one of the bedrooms whilst the men wait outside, and then the men will each pick a room at random. Nobody will know for sure who they have slept with, although each feels they will be able to tell. It's a great plan until the lights come back on and one of the guests turns up dead.

This is the first book I've read by Jack Heath, the blurb grabbed me so when it was on special from Audible it was too good to miss.

I really enjoyed listening to this. It's crafted in such a way that you aren't quite sure what is going on, even as things are slowly being revealed. Each chapter is told from a different character's perspective, so you get a slightly different take on what is happening. There are two timelines in the book, and the characters are referred to differently in each one which helps keep things a mystery.

The characters in this are really quite complex. There is a lot going on behind the scenes, and a lot of character back story that is important to events unfolding in the way that they do. It means that things can be a bit hard to follow in the earlier chapters of the book, but if you can keep the characters straight in your head it will set you in good stead for later on.

I wouldn't say it's a particularly scary or thrilling book, but definitely a page turner that will hold your attention. I didn't realise that there was a book before this that features some of the same characters, so will be adding that to my to read list.
