The pace was great - the book pulls you in straight away, and it's filled with either action or mystery throughout. When I started reading it, I expected to get a couple of chapters in, but instead I ended up reading until 2 am. The tension is so high in certain parts of the book, I found myself holding my breath.
The author clearly doesn't shy away from graphic description of violence, so I would definitely recommend checking trigger warnings.
The only thing I wasn't a fan of is the "romantic" subplot between one of the main characters and her estranged husband. I thought it was unnecessary, and frankly, quite boring. Annoyingly, this subplot is also framed a bit like a mystery - why did they separate? Whose fault was it? Does he still love her?
However, relationships between other characters were very well outlined.
Overall, it was a good read, and I'm definiteky puttung more Karin Slaughter books on my TBR!

There is lot of graphic violence.
Slaughter manages to make her sexual assault victims feel real. They are allowed to be strong without being weak, messy without being beyond hope. She makes them feel very real. A horrific experience humanized so those of us who are somewhat desensitized to it are reminded just how traumatic sexual assault and other violent acts are.
I loved the family dynamic in this book. It was flawed and complex and real.

I jumped in expecting a fast-paced psychological thriller and - albeit not what I got -was hooked by the beautiful writing and the flawless character development which truly brought out the brutal, palpable, and scathing nature of the story. The Good Daughter is less of a thriller story but more of a gripping family drama and murder mystery. I was so invested in almost every character and how their flaws and varied personalities were artistically shelled out and highlighted.
This book is such a tough and painful pill to swallow because of how graphic and unsettling it is. There were times I had to stop and calm myself down as it really got me distressed. So please tread lightly and beware of the trigger warnings.
Chipped half a star for my overall rating as it got dragging around the middle but not in an extremely boring way.
"Horrible things were a hell of a lot easier to digest when you took away the emotion."
