Very educational information given about blue whales. BEAUTIFUL artwork throughout the book. Would recommend for any child (or adult) interested in marine life. (or interested in beautiful art...)

Fascinating to read, gorgeously rendered, and overall superbly done.

The first of Jenni Desmond's endangered animal non-fiction series. Like Polar Bear, which I read first, it gives lots of information and beautiful pastel illustrations, along with an overlying conceit of a little child reading their favourite book. Extremely beautiful and engaging, although I was fascinated just a little more by the polar bear.

Jenni Desmond hooked me with Polar Bear. This one has a similar style and was just as enjoyable. As a writing teacher, I’d love to use this as a model for making interesting, shocking, or humorous comparisons. How about the fact that 50 people could stand inside a blue whale’s mouth? 😳
Plus I’m crazy about her illustration style.

I loved the illustrations/paintings and the facts. Many I did not know. I just love whales!

WOW! This is some amazing nonfiction writing. I really appreciate the comparisons that are shown in the text and the images. For example: as well as informing the reader that a blue whale can measure up to 100 feet, it goes on to explain that "this is the same length as a truck, a differ, a boat, a car, a bicycle, a motorcycle, a van and a tractor-all lined up." The accompanying illustrations shows all these vehicles lined up in a row." I love that the page discussing the eye explains that it is 6 inches wide, and the image of the eye is 6 inches.
The language is so straight forward and beautiful it will make fantastic mentor text for nonfiction writing.

My only quibble is that measurement is recorded in imperial units and not metric.

What a beautiful book! I love the soothing and charming art and the premise that the boy in this book is reading the book we are. Of course I learned amazing things about blue whales--what magnificent creatures! I'll be buying this for any and all kids I know.

Plus un documentaire qu'un album je dirais. L'illustration est très poétique.
