A heartbreaking love story of two childhood sweethearts Majeed and Suhra. Throughout the book, you keep your hopes high and root for the duo to have a happily ever after.

Basheer is a magician who can weave brilliant stories using the simplest words possible.

His books can awaken hidden emotions in you. Emotions you never thought existed in you.

Balyakalasakhi is one like that. There is no better title for this book.

There is the innocent childhood, the short-lived enmity which is followed by the longing for the loved one.

There is hope for a better future albeit a short-lived one. And, then there is a tragedy which comes in like an uninvited guest and leaves only the burden of deep sorrow and misery in its wake.

This is a short book. I read Malayalam at an average speed. I was able to finish it in 3 hours. It is a light read and definitely something that will stay with you for a while.

A heart-rending tale of Suhra and Majid's love which is torn apart first by society's norms and then by fate. Through Majid, Basheer shows us a part of his life, when he traveled across India.

Sometimes I like to remind myself that I have a mother tongue and it has literature and that I am literate.
This one is devastating (3.5 stars)
