The father's insistence to not tell Catherine who her mother is seemed a little too far-fetched. At this point, shouldn't his allegiance be with his daughter, and not the baby-mama? The excuses used when C was a child didn't really hold up anymore. Loved the "I see dead people" twist. Good times.

I was in need of something lighter to pick up recently, so this book seemed like a perfect fit. The cover makes it seem like it will be a cute contemporary romance, and while there is a romantic storyline, like Weisner’s last book, The Second Chance Year, this book is more a story of self-discovery with a romance on the side.

I really wanted to love this book, but it ended up being just fine. I liked the story better than the writing, which, unfortunately, ended up taking me out of the story. The writing felt overly simplistic, especially when it came to the main character. I felt like the author did way more telling than showing when it came to the main character’s personality. At times it felt like she was banging us over the head with what seemed to be her only personality trait (being rigid and uptight).

The story itself did have potential, and I didn’t hate the book, but it ended up leaving me wanting more. I didn’t really feel sucked in or connected with the characters. It was just okay.

Thank you to NetGalley and Forever publishing for the egalley in exchange for an honest review.

This was a real mix of nice moments and some that were a bit too cringe for me. I love magical realism and can suspend my disbelief very easily but some moments here it actually took me out of the story and seemed unnecessary, like Sal in the epilogue. I found a lot of it quite frustrating, especially with Catherine’s parents. If her mother didn’t want to ever be found by her daughter, why have her birth certificate all these years? I also found Catherine got over her father’s behaviour so easily. I am all for her growing and not needing to be so uptight but the responsibility and stress that was on her all her life without having a parent to actually take responsibility, and I don’t think her dad every actually apologised for that. I think more developments was really needed there, for me. It seemed Catherine had to change her personality to be less uptight but neither her dad or Luca changed to become more responsible for Catherine’s benefit. But still an ok read, easy with some nice moments.

Thank you Forever books for the review copy!
Read if you like variations that feel new on the “wish I could be someone else” trope, a plot with hidden depth and wit and charm, and solid slow burn chemistry with a sweetly sexy male MC. I am always here for the professor who wants to change things up vibe... (I get it!).

I love how Wiesner develops plots that are more than a romance, that have that hidden depth that authors such as Emily Henry always manage to pull off. The plots draw me in not for the romance, though I love a HEA, but for the journey the main characters go on. I loved how this story came together and look forward to the next book!
