We can do so much better than this.
The writing and world building are still solid, though Wildenstein occasionally makes awkward, out of character word choices that knocked me out of the immersion. My real grievances with this book are all about characterization.
1. Lore’s behavior is terrible. He is possessive, controlling, and purposely isolates her from all heterosexual male friends. He repeatedly invades her privacy, and when she does tell him no, he treats it as a challenge to be overcome instead of a legitimate boundary. Classic abuse behavior. At first, I had hoped his character would grow beyond this alpha male nonsense, but unfortunately it never happens. He is offended when he is compared to the other unflattering, power hungry kings in the universe, but that’s exactly how he behaves. Not a male lead I can cheer for.
2. Fallon is so incredibly alone, and none of her “friends” seem to give it much care, even going so far as to imply she is the problem and asking her to behave. How do I seemingly have more sympathy for a character than her own author does? Fallon repeatedly tells people exactly what she needs (reasonable requests like not being kept literally prisoner), and no one cares. When she communicates her concerns to Lore very clearly, he either brushes her off or refuses to engage with her (I assume because he’s a coward and emotions are scary). And yet, everyone who read this book seems to think Fallon is the problem - probably because the author drives that (inaccurate) point home again and again.
3. Fallon and Lore’s relationship. With all of the above left unaddressed, these people CANNOT have a healthy relationship. We see that culminate in the bath house scene in which Lore assaults her and Fallon cries in shame from her orgasm. It’s rape culture written as romance, and we can do better.

I don't wanna be mean but I feel like it's gonna be mean. Sorry in advance.
I'm really mad about this book. Book 1 had good ideas and maybe some eh execution. Book 2? My biggest gripe is probablydefinitely Fallon. She is so fucking annoying. Her stubborn streak was meh if not a bit endearing in the first one, but I wanted to absolutely throttle her in this one. She's childish, petty, and honestly jus a fucking bitch. The plot was actually fine when it wasn't about Fallon being a whiny stubborn jackass hellbent on unaliving herself out of spite and causing massive problems for everyone around her. It's giving... Addie from HA. No that's not a good thing. Lorcan, we love. We stan. We want a Lorcan. Be my monster pls 👉👈
But Fallon. Fucking TSTL dumb bitch. Spoilers. It really irks me that after the whole book of her being an unbearable dickhead all it takes is grinding on his leg and learning he's not actually engaged for her to fully yeet herself into the mating bond. Like, what about the other reasons you had for being mad? Yeah them being mated is super cute but it falls flat when it was almost insultingly easy to flip the switch. It's really frustrating to have the whole thing not even be good banter (from her side, not you Lore my love) when she's purposely being a cunt and one single oopsie orgasm to undo all of it. It feels cheap. There's not enough fight on her side in terms of like "oh maybe I have feelings" for it TO NOT feel cheap.
I'm mad bcs I thought this was a duology not a trilogy, and now I'm invested (under duress). Will I like book 3? Tbh if I can somehow forget the arc of book 2, maybe. Also the title made me gag, but maybe now I'm being petty.
