Different from Unearthed but still great
If I were to compare Unearthed to Indiana Jones (but in space) I would compare Undying to Jason Bourne. These books would make fantastic movies. I adored the recap of Unearthed at the beginning - if you’re reading this and you work for a publisher please know that every sequel should have one!! That, plus the writing style, made it really easy to fall back into the story even though I read Unearthed ages ago. I really hope there is more of this world to come. I could really use a new duology that starts where this one ends. Though, I should be clear, this one ends well without a bunch of unanswered questions. I could’ve used more puzzles in this one, like Unearthed, but otherwise it was great. I definitely got Illuminae vibes from this one. As my five star reviews usually end - just go read it already!

This was mostly the fun sci-fi adventure story I was expecting as the sequel to Unearthed, though sadly it had a lot less of the Indiana Jones/puzzle vibe of the first book. There were also a few places where the differences between my worldview and the authors' made the story very irritating.
There are a few homosexual characters in this book, ranging from major secondary to minor characters.
There's not much content in this book--most of the swearing is in latin, and while the threat of violence is perpetual there's very little blood or major injury. (As usual though, they did manage to make me cry--be aware that parts of the end might be upsetting.) There are a few kissing scenes, a brief description of a girl wearing only a towel, and a few references to 'sleeping together', though despite some awkwardness in the scene around the phrasing, referring to actual sleep. I might not hand this book to the very youngest teens, but it is refreshing to have some YA books that are low enough in sexual content to be okay for those toward the younger end of the age spectrum.
