What a long, strange trip it's been. THIS IS A HORROR BOOK is a horror book and so much more. It's a journey into the mind of Charles Austin Muir. Or, maybe, it's a journey into the mind of George John Wayne Kuato. Or, maybe, it's just a book about giving Charlize Theron the D.

THIS IS A HORROR BOOK is actually a story collection that kicks off the titular story. It's a fun and imaginative romp that prepares you for everything that comes next. Some of this stuff reads like cathartic biography, others like the ramblings of a madman who's honed the power of... well, something. There are smart pastiches in here that reveal the skill and stylization of a writer that writes at the next level.

One story is different from the next. Yet, there is a cohesive bond of Muir's mind and voice that makes it all work together to demonstrate the author's range. While some of the stories, in and of themselves, weren't necessarily my cup of tea, I was still impressed with choices and execution from more technical points of view.

Oh, and Charlize Theron gets the D many times. So, there's that.
