Zoe, Jennifer, Nadia; sisters; but not sisters. Zoe, the teacher, just wants to sell her flat and live quietly. But she thwarts a mugging one day, using, of all things, a watermelon as her weapon. For a time, the public focuses on her. She is a hero among the cops in her neighborhood. Unfortunately, Zoe is the recipient of letters that clearly indicate that the writer wants her to die. Law enforcement does nothing; Zoe is murdered.
Jenny lives opulently, is highly organized, and is working at remodeling her house while juggling responsibilities of her children, including a troubled teenage son. Jenny had been a hand model before her marriage, and for whatever reason, she was my favorite of the three women described here. But like Zoe, there came a day when Jenny was murdered, and in the garish light of day no less.

Nadia began receiving threatening letters after Jenny was murdered. She had not known either Jenny or Zoe. But because of the horror of the first two murders, the three were bonded like sisters in some deep beneath-the-skin kind of way. Nadia is a free spirit who works as a magician assistant/clown entertaining young children.

The creep factor is so high here you’re gonna read this with the lights on even if your light perception is zero. This is a disturbing bit of fiction indeed; the writing style is more-than memorable, and the lives of these women are vividly presented. You’ll see up close the grief, heartache, and life disruption that murder brings to pass; and while this is about solving murders, it’s more about the threads that bind us even when we don’t know or are not related to those to whom we are bound.
