Spider-Man Maximum Carnage

I enjoyed this book. It was a little hard to read it on the kindle but all in all it was interesting to read.

It was tough going at some points. The art style is fun even if the female character costumes are ridiculous.

Peak 90’s excess - Carnage and his “family” are all EXTREME EVIL, and there’s plenty of hand-wringing about morality among the heroes. It’s not a bad story, but it’s definitely too long, and there’s some real inconsistency from one part to the next (but that’s the nature of crossovers, for the most part)

I honestly didn’t expect to like this as much as I did. For an event spotlighting Carnage I was expecting a lot more ‘90s excess. But at its heart it’s a reaction to the grimdark stories that came before it, placing Peter Parker in opposition to what was in vogue for the time, and having him emerge triumphant.

I first read this in comic book form as it was released. At the time, I knew very little about the Marvel Universe and this was an introduction to many of the characters for me. I can honestly say that, almost 3 decades later, it still holds up as a tale that shows that there can be good and evil in all people... and you can choose which you want to encourage.

I've lost interest unfortunately. Maybe since I jumped in on this volume I'm a bit lost in terms of characterization of everyone. Or maybe superhero comics just don't have the appeal they used to. The story feels drawn out with conflict after conflict feeling repetitive and fruitless. Even the introduction of Venom to the mix didn't spice this story up for me.

90s comic that just didn't hold up to time. I read another comment here which sums this book up nicely. The plot resembles a 6 year old smashing his toys together. Dialog leaves a lot to be desired.
