What a great book. It was well written and it had absolutely beautiful pictures. It was a delight to read.

My son's first introduction to Robin Hood was the Disney movie with the fox as Robin. While the movie is good, this book is so much better. My son thoroughly enjoyed this book and I'll admit that I did too. But then, I've always been a fan of Robin Hood.

I read this book to my 5 year old. He devoured it. "Read another chapter, please!" I love that it gives a great story of Robin Hood and at the end it talks about who he might have been if the legends were true. I love how even though it is aimed at children it doesn't dumb down the language used. Great quality literature like this is one of the reasons he has such a wonderful vocabulary.

This is a fun one!

It tells some of the main stories, with personal flair that I enjoyed. The illustrations are actually pretty historically accurate, which I always appreciate (especially in children's books). There are also a lot of them, which made me very happy.

A couple of times, things weren't foreshadowed very well (oh hey, I just happen to have a friend in the vicinity! let's go hide there!), but the explanations for them made sense, if added in a bit late.

There's nice summaries in the back about the Robin Hood legend, the characters (and how they entered the legend), and some books and film versions for further reading/watching. Some of the films didn't really seem like kids should be watching (Kevin Costner and Men in Tights? really?), but points for mentioning Errol Flynn and Douglass Fairbanks.

Also, the first recommended read is Roger Lancelyn Green's, and I can't say no to that.

The typical Robin Hood stories, but this isn't the most engaging or endearing version I've read. We read this as part of our homeschool curriculum, and I will likely substitute a different version next time.
