Major Trigger warnings for self harm and mutilation in this book. In spite of that, this was a poignant story about loss and the lengths someone will go to to stay close to someone who has died. I don't have kids or want them, but even I could understand the hurt of Chris in this. I also like the breadcrumbs left that let us know that whatever has been visiting her is not her son.

I’m normally ok reading all sorts of vile horror books but something about the descriptive self-harm in this one was really making me feel sick and I’m just not going to do that to myself.

A piercing and essential exploration of maternal grief.

I would’ve liked it more if Chris had
killed her mother.

A hauntingly beautiful book with memorable imagery that I appreciated immensely. It's a perfect capsule of a classic, gothic tragedy. I would highly recommend it for the last few chapters alone, and as it's a short read it's more than worth the time getting to know Chris and the dilemma that greets her.
