very sweet quick read that felt true to my experiences with mental health struggles, though i wish
that we got see andrews perspective after his attempt.
i also feel as though not a lot of effort was put into fleshing out camp ugunduzi at all.

p.s. take a shot literally every time the “violins swelled”

Although I really enjoyed this, I did think that the book was focusing on one illness more than the others. That is obviously okay, but as a person who bought the book for ocd rep, I did feel that it was just used in the beginning of the book and then it was just forgotten. Would recommend though.

so the funny thing about me is i know beforehand when a book's gonna destroy me but i read it anyway, and then i cry and complain when it does destroy me. :)

**I just want to say sorry in advance, because this review is just my stream of thoughts immediately after reading the book, so if it's all over the place, that's why.**

Andrew was the only character I cared about. The representation of his eating disorder was the only mental health rep that was done at least semi-well. The plot twist of his attempted suicide was so heartbreaking, and we never got any resolution for it. We didn't get any more of Andrew's chapters after he went to the hospital, and that really made me upset because that was very traumatic, and we'll never know what happened with his character. His suicide attempt honestly just felt like a plot device-y way to make the other characters go through the traumatic experience of a losing a friend. It hit Stella particularly hard--mostly because she and Andrew had the starts of a romantic relationship (or just a really good friendship) and Stella never got to see him again and never got any closure. Also, the characters still left at camp kept talking about him like he was dead, which I don't think was helpful for anyone involved. And why didn't they get to go visit him? Like I think that would have been very beneficial for Andrew and the others, especially because it would be their last time seeing Andrew because they all live in different states, and wouldn't be able to see him after camp ended. Basically, after Andrew left, I stopped caring.
The ending had no resolution. The book sort of just... ended.
Also, the author used A LOT of italics and cap letters, which was really annoying.
