Jodi Picoult

3.59 AVERAGE

I love all of Picoult's book - she's phenomenal at developing characters, and always covers the most interesting topics. This isn't my favorite Picoult book, but that doesn't mean it's not great - she's just such an amazing writer that she's done better. :)

I'd still recommend it to almost everyone.

3.5 stars | I am very rarely the kind of reader to say there’s too much going on, but boy did I feel like there were too many things going on here.

Writing each chapter from the viewpoint of one of the characters was really annoying! I really did not need to know or care about the details or formula for making crystal meth (methamphetamine); however, now I am suspicious when I see a shopper with several bags of kitty litter! Also, the details about the prison experience in Phoenix was more than I cared to know! She followed though and carefully planned much of the plot material (fear of spiders, recurring dreams, etc.)!

Where you came from doesn't make you who you are.

Great characters, good style

slow in places

This is between a 3 and 3.5 stars.
As a mother, I can't even imagine my child being kidnapped. It breaks my heart. Having read through the story, I understand why Andrew did what he did, even though there are still many unanswered questions. The story itself is fascinating, gripping, really does have you on the edge of your seat trying to figure what all really happened and why.
What knocks my rating down two fold. First I felt the writing was like a roller coaster - it starts off with bang, gains some momentum, throws you through the loop, then falls flat for awhile until you hit the bigger loop at the end. The second is the character Delia. I thought I would love her, but I found her to be incredibly irritating. I honestly can't put my finger on it exactly as to why, she just was to me.
I've read several of Jodi Picoult's books and I love her writing. I liked this one, but didn't feel it was one of her strongest. I do still believe she is a master story teller.

good story although it dragged a bit in the middle. but as always picoult delivered a shock at the end. love her!

I liked the concept of this book a lot, but the jail scenes seemed really over the top. Quick and interesting read, overall but the ending felt forced. Why are there only two possible men to end up with? Just because you’ve known them forever doesn’t mean you’re limited to them.

Maybe I was just in the right mood, being end of exams and fighting a head cold, but I almost couldn't put this down - I finished the whole thing in about 2 days.
Unlike the last Picoult book I read (Harvesting the Heart), I actually found many of the characters in this one compelling, and it was really difficult to be rooting for both sides of a love triangle at once.
That said, the ending was sudden and extremely anticlimatic.
I wouldn't bother reading it again though.
