The Luminaries wasn’t for me—so unnecessarily wordy that I lost track of the story. I was intrigued by the subject matter of this book and decided to give the author another go, unfortunately with a similar result. Just not enjoyable for me.

HO. LEE. MO. LEE!
The novel takes place in New Zealand, near the Korowai National Park. A guerrilla-style gardening collective and an American billionaire become partners of sorts at an unoccupied farm. There is a lot going on with all the characters, their seemingly changing motives, and socio-political diatribes.
At first I had a bit of trouble getting into the book- it takes a lot of time developing the characters. The dialogue can be abrupt, but there are also long ranting passages of that I found quite well written and entertaining.
Once the book got going, I was hooked…….and the ending!!!!! That’s all I’ll say.
Please just read it.
