I really enjoyed this graphic novel with beautiful artwork. It tells the story of Manuel, who is struggling with PTSD after witnessing gun violence at his school. He begins using photography as a way to ground himself during panic attacks, which leads to connections with new friends and hobbies. It is a quieter story, but beautifully portrayed.

As someone in the mental health field, I loved this books depiction of PTSD and its impact. Niki Smith was able to show the symptoms and experiecing through her art really well. As someone who was a rural kid, I adored this books depiction of being a 4-H kid. There were so many small details that just fot with my experience as a former 4-H. Story wise, the book follows Manuels development and friendships through his experience in a very kind way and I found myself rooting for this kid. The art is also great! All on all I adored this book.

Perfectly paced and wholesome! Manuel’s dealing with the aftermath of a traumatic event, triggering PTSD. He finds his anchor in photography, his friends, farming, and what seems to be the beginnings of a crush.

Overall, I enjoyed the story and loved the artwork. The way the author shows Manuel’s struggles were well-done. The tidbits about photography and composition were nice as well.
