I purchased this book after reading the Nerdy Book Club post the author wrote.
I believe that picture books hold so much meaning for readers of all ages. This picture books holds this premise true. This book will be a wonderful story for young readers, but put it in the hands of an older reader and they are going to see so many important themes and truths in this book.

A boy wants a brand new firetruck but becomes disappointed with his grandfather's old truck. Grandfather teaches the boy a lesson about the value of old things. Would be good for Father's day.

Rowan really wants a brand new fire truck, and is disappointed with the beat-up hand-me-down he receives from his grandfather. His mind slowly starts to change as his grandfather regales Rowan with stories of adventures with Red as they fix it up. A nice deviation from the typical "slide down the pole! Race to the fire! Oh no, someone's stuck up at the top of the building, climb up the ladder and get them! YAY WE DID IT" theme that so many firefighting/fire truck books revolve around. I didn't really care for the illustrations (aside from the cover), but the story was okay.

What a delightful story about a young boy who learns to find the beauty in something old.

A sweet story about a boy, his grandfather, and using your imagination. A great book to share with anyone who loves firetrucks.
