I listened to this on audio and Joe Arden didn’t disappoint. He absolutely embodied our MMC Aero. Aero is pretty twisted and unhinged, however it stems from trauma at a young age. Our FMC, Briony (narrated by Desiree Ketchum), is a “good virgin Christian girl” who is trying to earn a spot in the church but becomes the object of Aero’s obsession after he’s hired to assassinate her. Instead, he begins to train her to protect herself while planning to use her to expose and destroy the corrupt members of the church. This book is heavy on the subject of religion so I don’t think this book will be for everyone, but overall I enjoyed it.

briony & aero

I devoured this story. I was entranced by Aero and Briony. They were a force to reckon with and watching Aero bring out what Briony had already built inside her was beautiful.

Briony is the first woman in her church to come close to a leadership position and she’s worked hard to get here. She’s endured but will she be able to outwit Saint, her closest competition. And now strange things are occurring around her and dark secrets/sins are beginning to unravel.

Aero has an assignment and an obsession. He will do anything to protect her. But Aero has long held secrets of his own and are his manipulations lessons or distractions?

I love stories revolving around religious cults, strong heroines, and obsessive hero’s. The darker undertones of religion in this story were haunting and very well done. This story is raw and dark.

**second read was via audiobook**
Joe Arden as Aero had me in a chokehold the entire audiobook. That is all.
