Meh, meh, and more meh. Nothing stood out. Nothing was awful. This book just sort of exists.

Accidentally started and finished this book in 2 hours so THAT’S FuN !!!! A short & sweet book about an event planner who normally focuses on weddings & happy ever afters ends up planning an event for a famous horror/thriller author.

I enjoyed it!! Such a small note but there were just some moments where the writer used exclamation points and it felt so bizarre bc i feel like i havent read many books that do that? Also the romance was QUICK !

Kate Sweet is an event planner better known for her Happily Ever Afters, and mostly booked to plan dream weddings; but she has her eyes set on the coveted EVPLEX, a famous event planning award that favors every other event but weddings. Her chances are further increased when her best friend ropes her into planning a book-launch for famous horror author Drake Matthews. Unlike Kate, Drake is famously known for writing the most terrifying books. He has writer's block, and hopes to break it after writing a story completely out of his comfort zone. At first, their differences clash and Kate is on the verge of getting fired; but they make a deal that will benefit them both: Drake will agree to all the shenanigans Kate throws at him for the launch, and Kate will help Drake act-out the scenes of his new book.
I didn't have high hopes, but I was hooked after their meet-cute. The third-act conflict was different, and though I understand why they were mad at each other, there was one party that overreacted, (IMO), and the magic was a bit lost to me.

3 and 1/2 stars

This was a refreshing change for an October read. It was a nice change of pace from my more heavy thrillers and mysteries.

This contemporary romance is about an event planner, nicknamed the Queen of Happily Ever Afters, who agrees to do a book launch for the Knight of Knightmares, an author of horror novels.

While the plot was somewhat predictable it didn't detract from my enjoyment. I think the author wrote it well enough that it can be overlooked and the main characters were both very likeable. I loved the setting and secondary characters.

Why are so many rom-com heroines redheads? From what I understand, redheaded people are somewhat rare, but you’d never know if from reading recent rom-coms. Also, so often writers feel the need to make their heroines petite. Other than those minor annoyances, I enjoyed this book. I liked the chemistry between the main characters. I also appreciated that the inevitable misunderstanding that always occurs 70-80% through rom-coms was fairly easily resolved in this book. I can imagine the author writing a sequel featuring the main character’s best friend.

I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book provided to me through NetGalley. All thoughts and opinions are my own. Thank you to the author and publisher for giving me the opportunity to read this book!

Dylan Newton’s “How Sweet It Is” creates a slow burn rom-com of wedding event planner Kate Sweet, who likes to give her clients that ‘Aww’ Factor and horror fiction writer Drake Matthews (aka the “Knight of Nightmares”) in a fantastically adorable meet cute that has you wanting to keep turning the pages to see how it will end. Kate and Drake’s meet cute had me laughing out loud, and looking forward to seeing what other shenanigans they would get into. The romance between the two of them seemed to sort of come out of nowhere, as Kate was just working with Drake as his book launch event planner, and then all of the sudden you’ve got people hooking up with little to no courting or really any development to their relationship. Overall, it was an enjoyable book and would recommend it to my romance book loving friends.

This is a pretty standard romance novel, very cute and funny. But I had to give it an extra star for being set in WNY! There’s something so charming about a romance novel set in a town that is so close to where I grew up!
