Beautiful artwork, excellent book design, and a very nice retelling of the classic story.

Beauty asks her father to bring her back a rose from his trip to his ship. Her father got lost and took it from the Beast’s garden, and he has to pay it back with his life or with his daughter’s, and Beauty goes in his place. She asks to go see her father as he is worried about her, but she doesn’t return after a week like promised because her sisters trick her, so Beast goes out to the gardens to die. Beauty comes back, tells him she loves him, and he turns back into his human form, and they live happily ever after.
This telling is so extra in comparison to the first! The writing is kind of sassy and spirited; it has a lot of personality and great descriptive detail. Some differences in this telling were even more backstory about the family, more details of how each individual feels, and the visual representation of Beast. Because of the great detail, this story was easier to get involved in, and once again, the illustrations were absolutely beautiful. While the text was the focus and took up most of the space, the pictures did a wonderful supporting job of picturing each scene as it was explained.

This book was very different than the Disney version we all think of. Which I really liked. It was a different version of my favorite fairy tale stories. The illustrations around the edges in some places or the whole page in others. I think it is a great way to tell a story. It is very interesting story because it follows the general Beauty and the Beast story but has its own things that it adds to it. I got lost in the story and it was a book that I had to reread a couple times just to make sure that I did not miss anything because there are so many tiny details.

I read this to my little cousin today. I’d read it before, but I’d forgotten how gorgeous the art and the expanded story were.

This is my favorite storybook adaptations of Beauty and the Beast, and one of my favorite adaptations, period!
The illustrations are wonderful, their framing creative, and the emotions both soft and dark. The words, too, are so charming! I love Mr. Fortune best of any of Beauty's fathers I've read. I wont spoil the other parts I loved, so I'll just say that this book has a great balance of humor and tragedy!

Perhaps the most elegant telling of Beauty and the Beast that I have ever read. It started off a little basic but once we get to the castle and the romance grows between Beauty and the Beast the story is absolute perfection.
The descriptions of the castle are magical and the painting are luscious, you are pulled into the most magnificent castle imaginable. I'm not much of a romantic, but the climax where Beauty confesses her love to the Beast is beautiful.
The painting are exquisite and I love the character design of the Beast, unique, interesting, and beautiful in its own way. Overall, this book is lovely, absolutely charming.
