"The Utterly Uninteresting and Unadventurous Tales of Fred, the Vampire Accountant" contains 5 short stories, each an episode from the (un)life of Fred, the vampire accountant in question. Fred was turned into a vampire one night and left to fend for himself, not knowing anything about other paranormal creatures inhabiting the world, so he just continued being himself, and adapted to his special new needs, dietary and otherwise.

The strongest impression I got while listening to the dramatized version is that it irresistibly reminded me of a 90s' sitcom along the lines of Sabrina the Teenage Witch - in format, as well as the target audience. That is to say, it might have been fun reading this in my early teens, but it did nothing for me now. It was an arguably fun way to spend an afternoon or two, but the fun was skin-deep and I was becoming more and more frustrated with the way we were beaten over the head with Fred's almost caricatured character, and the structure of the story insured that I was also feeling frustrated with the narrative seemingly going nowhere.

Excellent audiobook narration. The audiobook seems to narrate an older version of the digital book before edits were made to remove redundancies (e.g. story recaps as if it were part of a serial instead of a single novel), improve clarity, and fix some grammatical errors (but also created other grammatical errors).

So this was so stinking cute and weird and abnormal?

It read more like a series of short stories all with Fred and Crystal and their entourage which is why I give it 4 stars instead of 5. I did really like each individual story and I could definitely see this being great as a series with one consistent plot (which I've heard comes later) so I am super excited to continue. I also liked that this was pretty actiony for an "unadventurous" tale!

Plus the plot twist at the end? COME ON. Loved it. Can't wait to read more of these two.
