I am very much a mood reader and for that reason had a VERY hard time getting into this book. It was the choice for the book club I am in this month. Another reason I put it off is I tend to prefer my books with spice.

However, once I got into it I did not want to put it down. The banter between the characters is so delicious. The plot is driven and so action packed that when I reached the end I immediately had to see when the next book comes out and it is to far away. (July 2024)

I wish good reads allowed for half star ratings. This book is a 4.5 for me.

2.5 stars. I enjoyed following the love story of Pae and Kai, but as other reviewers have mentioned the first half to three quarters of the book is very ‘hunger games’ and copying other common fantasy hyped books, and a bit predictable. Not a lot of depth, and the book needed significant editing revision. However, it was a super easy YA read and quick to work through and pick up while I was travelling.

Really enjoyed the dialogue heavy and relationship focus this had.

Yeah tropey, yeah repetitive but it fills a romance craving.
