oh my god. incredible. the most beautifully, unique and impactful book i’ve ever read. for sure a new favourite book and one i’ll think about often and definitely a book everyone must read once in their life. every word was so well articulated and held so much depth and meaning, truly so amazing. a lot of this book spoke what i can never put into words. i’ll never read anything remotely like this again and i all of a sudden wish i could unread this and re read it a million times over.
this definitely isn’t the typical love story and this book deals with very heavy mental health topics, such as mood disorders, and it was incredibly done. i found myself relating to a lot in these characters and overall just rooting for them both individually and together. regan and aldos relationship was so complex, beautiful and unlike absolutely any i’ve ever read before. two broken people who fill each other with love and hope it’s enough in their own twisted way. their relationship was more than love, it was need, understanding, consumption, desperation, attachment, desperation, intrigue, comfort. i’m also seriously so in love with how this was written, 3rd person is never usually my thing but the way she wrote it and described their feelings so intricately was so capturing and i just couldn’t stop reading. the way this is written through their thoughts is so good. i found myself feeling exactly what they were so deeply and i feel like i’ve come away from it having learnt a lot and just a changed woman tbh. definitely one of few brain altering books you cannot stop thinking about, i feel like i could dissect this forever. i’ve never read any of her work prior to this and this makes me want to everything she’s written.
also, as an art student myself i absolutely LOVED the art aspect to this with regan, the way art was described and shown really inspired me as an artist and i felt like i connected with her a lot on that level too.
‘whatever you are made of, charlotte regan, i am made of it, too’❤️

Pretentious in some ways, profound in others. An accurate portrayal of mental illness, falling deeply in love, and it breaking you in the process. Some parts seemed to be written to be highlighted/quoted, which I didn’t like so much, but it’s overall a beautiful story.
I think the current 3.8 public rating is probably pretty accurately where I end up on this rating scale, but I happily round up in good faith to 4 stars. There are moments of this book that are 5 star worthy- namely the first half of the book. Just excellent. However, I feel the second half slipped a few times, for me. I felt the analogies went on a bit too far in some spots, bordering on cliché. But when minus those areas, I really did enjoy this read!

emotional damage. this book was poetic, pretentious, chaotic, elusive and eloquent all at the same time. this is not a fluffy love story. this is two broken people finding love, whatever that means to them. its manic and definitely not for everyone. i don’t even think i would recommend it to everyone but for me, 5 stars.
