Wow! I have loved all this books in this series and this latest addition didn’t disappoint.
The action started straight away and the twists and turns kept me guessing and I was constantly changing my mind on who I thought was responsible, and I’m happy to say I got it wrong again.
These books are fast becoming a favourite series for me.
I was lucky enough to receive this as an ARC from Netgalley but this is an honest review.

This Christmas, the hunters become the hunted...
Another great book to add to this series is a gripping and well written thriller. I have loved this series from the start and every year hope for a return the following year. This is 4th in a series and although people have said it can be read as a standalone I think reading from the first one gives so much more background into Detective Walker and adds to enjoyment of the story. Seriously though, he just deserves to have a nice and quiet Christmas 🤣
Thank you to Netgalley, Avon Books UK, and Alex Pine for an advance copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.

Four trail hunters go missing on Christmas Eve. Now they have to hurry to find them before nightfall, vecause the temperature is about to plummet. They search for hours before they find a body, brutally murdered, bearing a warning...
This Christmas, the hunters become the hunted…
This thriller/mystery is book 4 in the DI James Walker series, but the first one I read. It was nice to have the characters' summary at the beginning of the book. It can totally be read as a standalone and you don't have any difficulty following if you haven't read the first 3 books in the series, but it still was nice to have a little background information about each of the central characters.
I loved that it had the short chapters that will make you want to read "just one more", with plenty of twists and suspects.
I received an advance review copy of this book for free and I am leaving this review voluntarily.

Wow, what a brilliant book - dare I say it, the best in the series!
It's very dark, tense and full of twists. Though I did guess the killer reveal, I still thoroughly enjoyed it.
Though I do love this series, I wouldn't want to live there with all the killer Christmas' they have!

The night before Christmas by Alex One is the fourth book in the DI James Walker series but can be read as a standalone.
DI Walker is now DCI Walker, and it is near Christmas again and he wonders if he is going to have a quite time over the festive period. But the quiet life is short lived when he gets a call from a woman who says her husband and three of his friends gone on a hike in the Lake district and they haven’t returned home, and she worried about their safety.
It have been several hours since they have been seen and severe bad weather is closing in. The Police pull out all the stops to find them, even the Mountain rescue are involved to rescue the four. with further investigation into them they find out that the four-take part in illegal hunting and they are presently on a hunt and after threats from anti hunt protesters and the vandalism of their nearby farm, James realise that they might be involved in the disappearance of them.
I have read now all four books from this series, and this is another unputdownable episode in the series involving DI James Walker. I like the thought that has going on this book. Even the author has written a short recap of each character at the start of the book, which is appreciative if you haven’t read any of the others in the series. I was totally engaged in this story, and I enjoyed it so much I read it in a day. I recommend this. 5 stars from me.

DCI James Walker really needs to catch a break, for the past 3 Christmas's, he and his team have faced a hectic festive season with no let up in murder cases. In this 4th novel a call comes in on Christmas Eve to say 4 hikers have gone missing, and what begins as a search and rescue operation soon dissolves into another murder case, in what could be Walker's toughest case yet.
It's easy to say I've loved all of the previous novels in this series, this one, as the others, can be read as a standalone but I would advise readers to read them as they are so good. A great detective series.
