The story, the writing, the TWISTS!!!!! can't wait to read more from this author.

OH what a vibe! This book was so dark and gloomy, very atmospheric, and full of hauntingly beautiful descriptions! It felt like a cross between a grittier version of Fable, House of Hollow, The Wicked Deep,   The Silent Companions, and Small Favors (which I was surprised but also not surprised at all to realize was written by the same author lmao). It is very mysterious with a tense and unsettling undertone throughout the whole story. The world building was nicely fleshed out while not getting too lost in the details and leaving just enough mystery behind.

I liked our characters. Writing so many sisters must've been hard and I worried that they would fall flat with so many people to keep track of, but I needn't have worried! Despite there being so many of them, the way the sisters hold themselves and interact felt pretty grounded and fleshed out. The romantic subplot was a little bit insta-lovey but for once I didn't mind it! I felt that for the time period and social context, it felt fitting for the world we were in. I still found them and their chemistry together to be quite cute and had me giggling.

Wow, was I surprised by this book. I went into this book not knowing what to expect and I was happily surprised. The story was gripping and the some of the twists and turns caught me off guard.
I loved both Annaleigh and Verity the most. Annaleigh was determined, smart, and caring. She was just a lovely character to follow. Then Verity was just adorable.
