This book took me a week to figure out my thoughts. But I’ve managed to get a few notes down in my head.

I wasn’t expecting the supernatural. I was thinking it was gonna be a who done it book.
But for my first supernatural horror book I enjoyed it.

I did find whisper’s interesting, though I wanted to know more details about it. Like, guilt was the thing that created him and he’s been around for Decades, centuries, but it’s kinda all that was given, and he can control people inside their head.

The spooky parts were good. I like the mirror area and the characters hearing whisper’s in their heads, that was super creepy.
On the subject of characters,  their secrets I found some were a mix of really awful, while others were alittle mild. I just couldn’t figure out any of the secrets so I just went with the flow getting excited for them to be revealed.

There’s only one slight issue I found with characters and it was them being introduced to quickly. It’s abit of an overload having 10 characters introduced in one go. I had to re-read a few sentences just to figure out which character was talking.

I do love Noah tho, he was my favourite.

The ending with Ava felt like an open ending. It didn’t feel like the story was finished, and I wanted to know what happened next. But I guess imagination can come into play.

This book has left me SO CONFUSED.

On the one hand, this book reads like a continuous acid trip, and that’s a lot of fun. Between shards of mirrors, bright lights, creepy whispers and teenage skullduggery. This book is never dull. It’s a supernatural thriller that keeps you hooked from page to page, and that’s great.

On the other hand, this book reads like a continuous acid trip and that’s confusing as hell. There’s too many characters, the magic of the world is bonkers, and it skips from scene to scene with almost no pause (which is explained away using the “magic” of the island, but is still very jarring to read.)

So yes, there was a lot I liked about it. But a lot that left me feeling... underwhelmed.

Also the ending felt like a bit of a 180. I was fully prepared for Ava to BECOME Whispers and I was actually looking forward to that kind of a dark ending and then... well, I’ll let you read it. Either way, felt like a bit of an anti climax to me.

A pak přišel konec. Stejně nedořešený a otevřený, jako větší část knihy. Ale hlavně, že přišel. Pokud jde o mě a tuto knihu, platí jednou a dost. A jsem si poměrně jistá, že kdybych o hodnocení, které jsem knize dala, přemýšlela delší dobu a nepsala recenzi hned po jejím dočtení, pravděpodobně bych je ještě snížila.

The story started out strong but quickly fizzled as it became to entwined with the supernatural. I wanted there to be a real culprit, not ancient evil. It felt too much like a cop out and left many of the characters feeling flat.
