I was very disappointed by this book, I went in expecting a gripping murder mystery book with twists and turns but this is not what I got.
This book is marketed to murder mystery fans and the cover art and blurb made it sound like a gripping story however I think the book is better suited for young teen new to the murder mystery book genre. The story was predictable and the characters were boring.
I found the ending predictable and no one’s secrets came as a surprise because of the hints dropped earlier in the book.
All in all I won’t recommend this book unless it’s your first murder mystery book.

I’m usually a huge fan of YA mysteries. I think how this was marketed kind of made me surprised and disappointed because it turned out to be less mystery and suspense and more supernatural. The ending had a great lesson but left a lot to be desired.
There was a great quote in the book that said something about dreams being close enough to reach but far away enough to chase and I really enjoyed that line.
Maybe this will hit better for others but I definitely wouldn’t compare it to a Karen McManus book. Maybe a baby Stephen King book. It wasn’t bad and it wasn’t great. It was a book that I more or less finished to help me get to my yearly goal. It was a quick read and the author has incredible potential. Her writing and use of metaphors and descriptions are stellar.

It's very rare that I can't find something good to say about a book. People work hard, sometimes for years at a time, to put books together and publish them and send them out, and I never want to make light of that. And, of course, books are very subjective; I didn't enjoy this, but someone else might. I've deliberately not looked for other people's reviews before writing this one, so I could very well be in the minority.

Because I didn't enjoy this. It's confused, it's confusing, there are too many characters with not enough detail given about them, the narrator has no idea what's going on and thus neither do we - it's just not a fun read. I couldn't keep most of the characters straight, and we knew so little about them that I didn't really care when they started dying. I didn't understand the supernatural villian or what exactly he was doing or what his ultimate goal was.

I'm sure there are readers who loved this. I'm glad for them! I hope it does well. But it isn't remotely for me, I'm afraid.

How in the fuck did this get published? I almost DNF, but I just had to see it through. I’m almost considering dousing this book in gasoline and using it as a fire starter at the river this weekend.

It never got stuck in and I got so confused. Say if you read some the come back the next day you don’t remember what happened. The ending sucked. Hated the book
