I picked this up on a whim. I thought I’d be reading a memoir that was sad, would touch me, and maybe give me a tear or two. I ended up never wanting to put it down, crying through many moments, and finding parallels to my own life that I know I’ll need to face. I couldn’t recommend this book more.

"The more time I took to consider the trauma we had all been through, the easier I understood that two seemingly contradictory truths can exist simultaneously. My parents could be warm and loving but also reckless and flawed. Our family life could have been happy despite the tragedies."

I loved this memoir. So heartfelt & heartbreaking but real & raw. An honest look at what it's like to grow up & live a life where mental health touches everything but we aren't allowed to discuss it even as we watch it break everything. It's also a disturbing lol at the state of mental health care in our country.
