Extremely brave, insightful, well-researched and balanced blend of memoir and journalism examining the history of mental healthcare in one American family in the unique post-WW2 era all the way thru to the early 2000's as they struggle with addiction, bipolar, depression, anxiety, suicidality, abuse, and the culture of silence surrounding these topics. Extremely powerful book that I will be thinking about for a long time.

If you have Boomer parents, like I do, read this. If you, yourself, are a Boomer, read this. Very eye-opening.

Book of the year, book of the decade, book of the century!!! Meg Kissinger is one of the bravest and most brilliant people I have the privilege of knowing and this book is so, so important.

The title absolutely nails what this book is about. An investigative reporter turns her focus on her own family history of bipolar, depression, alcoholism, and suicide growing up in the Baby Boom. A solid pick for those who like memoir and are interested in mental illness.
