If you read Hidden Valley, you will love this book. The 3rd half wrapped up with a hopeful ending despite a tough topic. Great writing.

This was a fantastic memoir! I thoroughly enjoyed reading it from cover to cover. I was very engrossed in the story. Kissinger’s memoir is heartbreaking throughout the book. What I thought was unique about this memoir is that it had a lot of very interesting facts about mental illness that were not merely based on opinion it is definitely worth the time to read it, and I highly recommend it!

A deeply heartfelt memoir of a family struggling with mental illness. The parents and children suffered from  alcoholic addiction, depression, severe anxiety and bipolar disorder. Growing up, in a large Catholic family outside of Chicago, family secrets are not disclosed nor discussed.  Meg Kissinger’s tells her family story with love, frankness and a bit of humor, too. “Only love and understanding can conquer this disease”.  A first person account similar to Hidden Valley Road. Highly recommended read.
