This book taught me not to read reviews before reading a book. It wasn’t as bad as reviews said it would be and it was actually enjoyable once the setting and characters were established.

the introduction of Mikhail was my favorite part and the scenes at the Armenian theater along with the tribe of youth in the streets of Paris.

This book made me think of the history of societal conventions and why we follow different sets of rules. It made think of different ideas about love and commitment.

The ending was a bit confusing but was a tear jerker for me.

I would say go in with an open mind. I liked it more than I thought I would.

My day was good, let night fall.

DID NOT FINISH

1.5 stars.

This was pure bullshit, the writing was okay actually enjoyable but the content was utter bullshit. I have no idea what in heck I have read. I DNF'd after pushing myself for 3 days to try and get through this book thinking there was a light at the end of the tunnel.

Sorry to say, the light was not even a light it was a reflection of a reflection of shit. Yes just like you didn't understand that last sentence is how I feel about this book. Why isn't important to know the reason for train tracks to be 143.5cm.

Honestly, this is the second book of this author that I have DNF'd this year. I read 11 minutes a long time ago and it was decent but the rest of his writing, you need to be high on every known psychedelic drug to even glimpse at what he is trying to say.

This was all about his entitled regurgitation of being able to to sleep with as many women as he wanted and live life without responsibility and have his fun without caring about anyone one else who got hurt in the process. Suffice to say, this is the last time I am attempting to read Paulo's books. I clearly have not attained the "spiritual enlightenment" he has.
medium-paced

I cannot believe I took this long to complete this book. After readjng the Alchemist a few years back I decided to purchase The Zahir since I absolutely enjoyed the Alchemist. This book was a story about a writer whose wife mysteriously left him without a trace and he became quite obsessed to find her. Im his mind she was happy but the reslity of the situation was that she needed to do some soul searching in order to find that happiness she craved in her life.

I really like the writing of Paulo Coelho. He writes in such a way that you need to really put some thought into what is being said. This book made me think of my own life and made me ask myself if I am truly happy.

I would recommend this book if you are a fan of inspirational reading.
