It’s come to my attention that some people don’t like Chaol and therefore don’t like this book? I guess these people are insane because HUH? I love Chaol. His growth and redemption arc and internal struggles are so relatable and feel so human in comparison with the other characters in this series. He’s frustrating at times, yes, but that’s what makes his inner turmoil and struggles so relatable and real. I really enjoyed following him and Yrene and Nesryn in this book. It was a little slower than the others in the second half of the series, but the character growth made up for the slower plot.

Highly recommend reading this in tandem with Empire of Storms! While I loved also having Chaol, Nesryn, and Yrene’s POVs, going back in time to read what was happening on their continent after the cliffhanger that Empire of Storms ended on would have been brutal.

Surprisingly this may be my favourite in the series so far.

3.8 estrellitas.

A good breather for what I assume will be an intense, wild ride, with Kingdom of Ash coming up next. TOD is a story of redemption, healing (both physical & emotional), hope, & love. 2 strong couples emerge from this novel & I love them both together ❤️
