This book delivers a meticulous deep dive into the global drug trade, tracing narcotics from production to the end user. The author offers actionable solutions to curb the market, supported by highly relevant international examples applicable to India. While dense with names and places-essential evidence from rigorous investigative work-the detail is justified. A fascinating and essential read for understanding this complex underworld.

One of the most interesting books I have read! It was sometimes hard to put it down since I was learning so much.
In the end, I am not surprised by how much interested I was in this topic since the chapters are super interesting and go in details on how drug cartels are taking inspiration from big companies like Walmart or MacDonalds

Now, hear me out. I'm not one to hype up an economics nonfiction book, but I was surprised at how fascinating and well-researched (which is to say, how many angles and self-awareness of what he doesn't cover/what the research doesn't allow space for). I learned a ton, which as someone who feels strongly about drug policy and considered themselves well-read on this subject, I was surprised by. I was also honestly surprised at the policy recommendations Wainwright made- that is to say, I was surprised to see that the research is so clearly favoring the opposite of current policy, and that Wainwright doesn't mince words about that.
Great primer on the subject, and a great way to deepen your understanding of the complicated interconnected nature of drug policy across the world.

I really liked this book. The author (journalist) gained access to integral links in the narco chain and he does an excellent job of conveying the information in a snappy fashion.
Ultimately I am incredibly disturbed by drug users (whether casual or chronic) taking zero consumer responsibility.
The author breaks down the history of the war on drugs and points out all the ways it is failing, while also pointing out the ways that drug traffickers are surpassing their antecedents.
