An absolutely masterful conclusion to this trilogy, which has served as a much needed reminder to myself, along with the other books and shows I’ve consumed in the past year, that the beauty of Star Wars is in its expansive nature, both as a world, and beyond the feature films themselves.

This book was my least favorite of the three. It gets full and expositiony at time but it wraps everything up well and I'm happy with how everyone ends up for the most part.

If I am going to be honest, unless you are a hard-core Thrawn Stan, this trilogy is not the most essential read. It doesn't really tell you much other than Thrawn is good military strategist, and could have one book.

This book was a really satisfying conclusion to the Thrawn Ascendancy trilogy, a series that I started over 2 year ago at this point and have only now had the opportunity to complete. I recall the first half of this novel being slow, mired by family politics and without a clear sense of direction, as was the case with the other two novels in this trilogy. Like the others, however, this came to an amazing resolution, and the final third of the book went by in a blur.
All the characters are amazing. Thrawn, of course, is fantastic, with his relentless drive to protect his people. Further, we get to see some depth and vulnerability in his character that has not been seen since Outbound Flight, with the introduction of his brother Thrass. While not brothers by blood, both of them are dedicated to each other and to the survival of their family and nation in a way that is truly amazing to read. The flashback chapters of this book were amazing - seeing the bond grow between these characters was really fun. However, the rest of the characters were all also amazing - from Samakro to Ziinda to Aralani, all of these characters have grown from their first appearances in this trilogy in a way that's really satisfying to read.
The plot also handled the Grysk threat extremely well. While we learned more about their threat, and we knew from the other canon trilogy featuring Thrawn that they couldn't have been completely defeated, they were handled in an extremely satisfying way, and a way that perfectly set up Thrawn's appearances further in the Star Wars timeline.
Overall, an amazing book - if you are a Star Wars fan who enjoys the political and military aspects of the story and are in a mood to not read stories heavily involving the Force, read the Ascendancy trilogy.
