A really short read that I think would benefit more from being part of a collection of similar short stories.
As a stand alone, it's fine. It's very much on the nose. There is no subtlety, it's in your face, and as a love letter to Frankenstein I don't think it's trying to be.
The world he creates is very interesting. I got a Repo! The Genetic Opera vibe, that interested me greatly, and would like a further exploration of it.
I will say, that it's not so much a story as it is an exploration into a character that we get very little on. But the message is very on point. And one that I think lifts it from just being a love letter. His style of writing is very much a solid point in his favor, allowing for the internal dialogue and just all around world around him to be told right away.
It's a nice appetizer to his other work, especially having seen much more growth and subtlety in his novel.
