Quite possibly my favourite of the series so far due to the action from beginning to end!

Yes, Yes, Yes, Shane and Claire!!! Finally, and I find myself more and more impressed wtih Shane Collins. He never lost faith in Claire. Even when it seemed everyone else did. His love seems pure and true. Note that I say seems, nothing is ever as it seems in Morganville. That is why I love these books. You never know what can happen.

The war is lost, Amelie is gone and Bishop is in charge. Shane is caged with his dad. Everyone hates Claire because she’s Bishop’s pet. Myrnin has sided with Bishop. Michael is tethered to him via vamp on vamp biting violence.
Heartbreaking and terrifying.

Claire feels hopeless and her first priority to somehow save Shane’s life (teenage girl priorities 🙄). But Bishop is a total dick, and he knows that’s what she wants, so of course he dangles it in front of her while having her deliver various death warrants to people who were formerly Amelie’s.

But wait, is there a secret resistance? Are some people only pretending to do Bishop’s bidding?

Battle number whatever at this point is building. Two bus loads of people likely to end up killed are snuck out. The work for the cure is being done in secret. Shit is about to go down. Again.

Oh and Claire is still an impulsive danger seeking idiot; she would’ve had Covid by the end of week 1 of the pandemic because she can’t even keep her ass in a damn house 😂

This book is fast paced, head spinning, and unputdownable. Any earlier reservations or doubts I had about this series or even any of the characters has completely dissipated. There are very few clean cut villains; even Oliver is starting to grow on me.

I was flying through the Morganville Vampires series, reading them back to back for some light relief. I had to force myself to put them down at the end of Lord of Misrule to get back to my normal reading material. Well, I really shouldn't have forced myself, Carpe Corpus would have been my Morganville cold shower.

Like the others, it carries on from the previous book's plot, however with a gap in my reading it took me a while to remember what was going on. It doesn't have any real plot to it, I mean I really couldn't summarise it for you and I finished it yesterday! It seems to me that it's an attempt to tidy up all the loose ends from previous Morganville escapades, which means that we can start afresh in the next one.

There's still some good bits, like the vampire computer and most of Myrnin's scenes. Claire finally passes the age of consent so we don't have to hear about that excuse for the hundredth time. It's still got some of the humour that makes the series so endearing.

The ending seemed really out of place, not with the general world of Morganville but in its placement in the book. I thought it was being wrapped up and I was getting bored. Then suddenly something quite serious happens but that's over again in a few pages.
