Honestly liked the first half and I was excited to see them escape but dean was kinda a prick. His behavior really pulled me out of it. So hot and cold, Cora should have accepted when he left and got into therapy and moved on.

Nothing really bad to say about this book—I thought it was excellent. I truly loved reading it.

Read the Trigger warnings!
This was a hard book to read but very well written and you can’t help but love Cora and Dean.
Would recommend!!

This dark romance is not dark in a violent kind of way, although there definitely is violence, but more in a sad way. The before, during, and after the kidnapping made for a very well-rounded story when normally the book ends when the kidnapped are freed. As a reader you get to see the effects the kidnapping had on both MCs emotionally, mentally, and physically and how their trauma bonded them. I also appreciated the accurate representation of family and friends not understanding the trauma and why Cora and Dean couldn't move on despite time passing, even if it was frustrating to read at times. I will say that I hated Mandy and thought she was the most selfish and insensitive person. She showed no empathy or compassion for her sister or her fiancé and only cared about herself. Again, though, she didn't understand why Dean couldn't move past what he had been through, which is also sometimes accurate of loved ones of those who have experienced trauma. Know going into this that it's a very heavy read and be mindful of trigger warnings.

I really, really enjoyed this book. Of course it has the usual pick me main character symptoms (I’m not like other girls type beat) but I’ve learned to just ignore that, and once you do the book it actually pretty good.

One thing I didn’t like is how
after Cora and Dean are free, eventually Cora begins acting extremely selfish and toxic. I understand that this is not an entirely inaccurate portrayal of someone coping with trauma, but when Dean told her not to kiss and fck him anymore because it’s hurting him and she basically smugly says “But you’re turned on rn so I won’t stop”…
I had to take a walk to get over that.

In general Cora’s personality was imo sometimes hard to… emphasise with? I mean,
adopting her kidnappers and rapists dogs
is CRAZY.
I think Dean’s character and Dean’s way of coping was handled much more gracefully, and
I’m glad he got his happy end with her.

But despite all that I still enjoyed the book, read it all in one sitting instead of sleeping.
