These short stories do contain spoilers for the duology so I wouldn’t recommend reading it before you finish the series.

Unlike the duology, all but one of the stories in this are from perspectives other than Xingyin

The language is beautiful but the stories didn’t feel needed for me. If you adore the series, it is a great way to spend more time with the characters.

I feel like a few of the stories kind of glossed over the part that would have been more interesting and focused on retelling part of the story we already know in great detail

Beautiful illustrations. I wish the duology had them as well

Adorable.

Honestly I feel like some of these stories or a version of them should have been included as part of the main series (coughWhenzicough) as it would have made for a more convincing love story.

I loved these short stories even more than I liked the final book altogether. Who would have thought? The illustrations were also a nice treat. This is such a cute, whimsical and beautiful book to have sitting on a shelf.

Although I was not a fan of the main duology, I enjoyed these short stories and how they felt like fairy tales.

I adored the illustrations and I loved the little insights into parts of the story we didn't get to spend time with in the duology. if I'd read all three close together it'd have made me enjoy it even more.
