I loved this book! I loved character development of the main female character as a true heroine, true  to her honor. As a Chinese reader, the story of Chang’e is well known to me. The author’s innovative interpretation of this well known tale is so refreshing. I appreciated all the cultural references, all the descriptive language for the worlds, clothing. I could imagine it in my mind so vividly and clearly (helpful that all the old timey dramas i watched as a child helped me to  picture everything). Yet it was not out of reach for non Chinese readers. This is a well written story you won’t forget.

An absolutely captivating epic novel. I often could not put it down. So many twists and turns that I did not expect. The character development is strong, the drama, the romance, friendships. The descriptions were beautiful and at times had me visualizing it so much it’s like I was watching a movie. I can’t even imagine what awaits in sequel!?

One of my now all time favorite books! The story gripped me from the get go. Xingyin is such a badass, Liwei is swoon worthy. I loved this story so much and found myself sad when I finished the last page. I can’t wait for the next book in the duology.

Loved the mythology and the setting in general. It’s just very clear to me that the author has no idea how the military works or like, human nature in general… And for some reason I just couldn’t suspend enough belief to keep reading
