I started this book in spring of 2019, and was slowly getting through it. Current events made more more eager to finish. It's a fascinating book on the history of Bellevue, but also New York City.

Using Bellevue Hospital in New York City as its vehicle, this book tells the fascinating history of modern Western medicine. (Like, did you know that it was basically a med student rite of passage to steal bodies from the morgue so that they’d have cadavers to learn on?!) As a medical provider, I found parts of this book to be thrilling and remarkable, and kept bringing up tidbits to friends and coworkers in conversation. (Audiobook)

I was surprised how little I knew about the role Bellevue played (and plays) in American medicine. This book was pre-Covid, but I’d love to hear the role they played in 2020
