This was okay. The art was pretty, the one plot twist was pretty good but it wasn’t really explained why the magic happened the way it did. Magical realism is still a hit or a miss for me and unfortunately this was a miss.

The first half of this book was fantastic. The dynamic between the two leads was incredible, the art was beautiful, the story felt grounded and the situation was realistic and relatable without being too vague. Once the story got fantastical, it really messed with a lot of the good stuff the story had going for it, although the art never really improved.

This is my second Tillie Walden book and once again, I was completely blown away by the stunning visuals and use of colour. I hadn't really looked into what the book was about before picking it up and it covered some topics that I'm not usually fond of reading but it did so with great care (again, the use of colour was phenomenal).
