A really solid graphic novel reflecting on grief, pain, sadness, and the relationships between others and ourselves. It can be a bit hard to follow, but Tillie Walden has a very beautiful and lyrical way of conveying stories with her art and works. I’m very impressed and I plan to read more of her work in the future.

So I want to talk about the art work first. The color palette of muted mauves, peaches, purples, and flashes of blues, yellows, and reds were woven so beautifully in an art style that felt beautifully dreamy. The winding roads, and picturesque landscapes softened by soft brushstrokes and feathered textures. I often caught myself pausing while reading to take in a scene or a picture.
On the story-telling--
This was beautifully dreamy. The dialogue was touching and I felt grounded by very real emotions and difficult topics. Magical scenes and a touch of mystery flit in and out of real life hardship that made the intake of the story pleasant. It was a perfectly balanced story-telling and I can see myself gifting this experience to friends along the way.
