Lou and Bea coincidentally meet. As both are leaving their homes Lou offers to give Bea a ride. In their journey they find a stray cat and decide to return it to their owner by the inscription on it's collar tag. They embark on a journey not only to the cat's mysterious hometown but of introspection.
It was the perfect emotional and cozy read for a rainy afternoon since this novel's warmth embraced me. What I love about magic realism is that the outline of the plot seems simple and sometimes quite ridiculous but deep inside it conveys a deep message. Finding a safe space where you can share what burdens you without shame or judgement, coming in terms with yourself and what happened to you and how running away won't solve your problems are some of the themes discussed in this graphic novel. The author sure does know how to create an ambience of intimacy.

The artwork was beautiful and the story was touching. I loved this graphic novel.

Aside from feeling empathy for the characters talking about their hardships (i.e. sexual assault, coming out to their parents, identity, etc.), this story wasn't really for me. I was confused a lot of the time, didn't really understand the "magical" elements of the story, and I just didn't really care about what was going on. I picked this up because I read Spinning by Tillie Walden, and I enjoyed that one a lot, so I thought I'd give this one a shot, but this one definitely paled in comparison.
