I am vengeance. I am the night. I am the Batman of Zur-en-arrh!

I had high expectations going into this, given that it’s by Grant Morisson. I’m a diehard Batman fan who will read anything with the words “Batman” in it. Alas, I can’t recommend this. Not even to another diehard Batman enthusiast who wants to read any and every Batman comic he can get his hands on.

The story was not captivating. The visuals were ordinary. Nothing memorable about this tale, I’m sorry to say.

This is kind of a great premise, and Morrison does some fantastic things with it (which I can't wuite talk about without being too spoilery), but overall it sadly suffered from Morrison's occasional tendency toward being a bit purposefully confusing and also throwing in everything but the kitchen sink.

Interesting, but also terribly confusing. It was hard to follow the storyline for me. Plus, the last two stories, I wasn't really sure how they fit in (other than giving the back story).

Batman R.I.P. actually kind of sucks but I had to give it a few stars just because the concept of "the Batman of Zur-En-Arrh" is so fantastic.

Too muddled. I had trouble maintaining interest throughout the whole thing.

Batman R.I.P. is one of those collections that had me flipping backward through the panels, inspecting each panel for something that will lead me to understand its conclusion before I get to it. Much like Watchmen - and at the same time, very much unlike it - Batman R.I.P. allots you a lot of important information in small doses.

The superb writing is greatly complimented by the awesome artwork. The sinister Joker's qualities are intensified within these pages, reminiscent of something diabolical - at times, I swear I could picture Marilyn Manson's face (even though, he's probably the least diabolical singer in the "industry"). The torn identities carried by Bruce Wayne/Batman, the loyalties between family and friends - they all play the part of who we are and who we want to be and what we use in order to stay sane.

Batman R.I.P. won't find it hard to garner a place within the Gotham mythos and the canon of comic book fans everywhere. It should be read by anyone wanting to know how to write a story, be it prose, script or a graphic novel.

Did not enjoy the first couple of issues in this. Loved it once I twigged what was going on. Kinda love Talia even more for exacting that revenge.
