This would be a super fun story to read at storytime and talk about onomatopoeia!

I am a sucker for any book that has anything to do with music so a picture book by Wynton Marsalis is definitely going to catch my attention. Each page is full of the sounds of daily life made into a musical melange of onomatopoeia. I'd love to hear this book read backed up by some jazz musicians.

I like how rhythmic this book is, so even though I don't think I could make it work as a read-aloud, I might revisit that idea. I wish there were more ways to involve the audience in the storytelling!

EDIT: I can totally make this work now. Yay for developing storytime confidence!

I liked the connection between everyday sounds and the various instruments. Lots of references to New Orleans, too! This might be fun for a music storytime, if you had the kids make sounds with you. Otherwise, while I like it, I'm not sure it would hold the kids' attention the WHOLE way through.

Fun and jazzy. (no surprise, given the author.) Be prepared to make lots of noises.

One of our favorites! This book has fabulous illustrations with lots of instruments along with everyday things like trucks and squeaky doors. I love that this book introduces kids to instruments they might not yet know about in a such a fun way. The sounds are brilliant and the book always held my 16 month old's attention.

Love the juxtaposition of "musical" sounds and "real world" sounds showing how they can all make rhythm and music.

A journey through the noises of a day. Great for a music storytime, but the reader must commit to making some pretty wild noises!
